It’s great to finally be back in lessons at British Swim School! We first enrolled at the beginning of 2019 and my kids made such amazing progress. Then in March 2020 the pandemic hit and everything shut down. After the holidays I decided it was time to get back into lessons to prepare for the summer months that we are very much looking forward to! I also felt that it was completely safe to return with the added Covid-19 safety measures British Swim School implemented:
— Additional cleaning procedures in collaboration with pool partners
— Daily health check-ins with all staff, swimmers and families
— Asking children to arrive with their swimsuits on to reduce touchpoints
— Touch-free check in process with the Deck Ambassador
— Staggering class times to allow for additional cleaning and sanitization
— Limiting the equipment used in our instruction
Also, the CDC have stated that there is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread through the water in pools, hot tubs, spas or water play areas. Proper operation and maintenance (including regular disinfection with chlorine and bromine) of these facilities will normally deactivate the virus in the water.
Teddy started back at the Minnow level where he left off last spring. He did a great job in his first lesson but after that he has been downright resistant about getting into the water. It seems that the 9 month break was too long and he developed a fear of swim lessons. So, Teddy will be taking a break and we will try lessons again in a few months.
Mae on the other hand is doing terrific and loves being back in lessons. Her instructor Peter is a great teacher who also makes it fun. Mae is continuing to work on her stroke development in the Turtle 1 class. Once she reaches all of these goals she will graduate to the next level:
- Streamline with flutter kick independently
- Swim-roll-swim to safety
- Independently swim 10 yards or 10 cycles of beginner backstroke with arms out
- Independently swim 10 yards or 10 cycles of beginner freestyle with arms out
- Demonstrate breathing on the side
Mae is so close to graduating to the Turtle 2 level! It is great as a parent to see her progress. I have no doubt that she will be moving on up soon!
