Mrs. Claus Tea at Strathmore

Strathmore Mansion

My 3 year old daughter Clara loves to have tea parties at our house. So, when I saw the Mrs. Claus Tea event at the Strathmore Mansion advertised, I knew it would be a big hit with her. Santa, Mrs. Claus, cookies, & tea – what’s not to love? I try to do one activity with just Clara every weekend, so that she feels like she has special one-on-one time with her Momma. This seemed like the perfect fit for our momma-daughter date.

The Strathmore Mansion is beautiful! As we were walking up to the front doors, I was telling Clara that this is where Momma and Daddy had their wedding reception but in return she said “No, you can’t marry Daddy. I’m going to.” I’ll have to try to explain that to her in another couple years!

After entering, we were seated at our table in the Music Room. The tables are set according to your party size, so Clara and I had an intimate little table all to ourselves. The table included a name card and menu.

The first plate we were served had four little tea sandwiches, a muffin, scone, and ants on a log. Clara loved putting the sugar cubes in my tea and getting to use real fancy china!

After we were served our dessert plate, they gave bells to all the children and told them to ring them so Mrs. Claus would know where we were. Then sure enough, Mrs. Claus made her appearance. She visited each table and gave the children a small stuffed snowman.

After tea, Mrs. Claus read “Twas the Night Before Christmas” to the children in the Main Hall.

Santa Claus surprised the children after the story. They all got a chance to sit on his lap and tell him what they want for Christmas.

This was such a cute event!  I will definitely attend the tea again when little Miss Mae is older and I can take both girls.

Additional Info:

•Tickets were $28/person
•The Strathmore has many events for children throughout the year. Check their events calendar for more info.
•If you want to attend next year, make your reservations early – the tea was sold out at the end of October this year.

Photographer Feature – Dana Rose Lee Photography

I get asked a lot by other moms about recommendations for photographers. So I am writing this post on Dana who has photographed my girls several times. Dana is a Bethesda based natural light photographer specializing in children and families. I first met Dana about 2 years ago when she photographed my daughter Clara in our backyard. Clara was 19 months old and was at her most energetic stage. Clara wouldn’t stay in one spot for longer than a few seconds during the session, yet Dana got so many stunning images. Actually, too many to choose from!

Since then, Dana has photographed both of my girls a few more times and each session has been a wonderful experience. Dana works so well with children that she makes them feel as though they are playing and not posing for a photo shoot. She is great at capturing them in a natural and candid way.

And her close ups are so striking!

Dana is always so good at interacting with my girls and being silly so that they feel comfortable in front of the camera.

She is also amazing at capturing personality, expressions, and emotions in her photos.

It’s clear that Dana is incredibly talented and has a serious passion for her work! She is such a pleasure to work with. I will be forever grateful for these images Dana has captured of my girls. I have many photos from these shoots displayed around our home and every time I look at them I have powerful feelings. Children grow up way too fast. I’m thankful I have these photos to always look at and take me back to these precious moments in time.

Dana is having mini sessions this Saturday, December 6th in Potomac, Maryland. As a special offer to my readers – I will send you a $50 gift certificate to be used on a holiday mini session if you book it this week!
