I really can’t believe that the school year is almost over! Most local schools are all wrapping up within the next 3 weeks. I’m sure I’m not the only mom who feels like the year flew by! And this was just our first year with a Kindergartner, so I have a feeling it will only get faster from here on. Thankfully we were blessed with amazing teachers and I really want them to know how much we appreciate them. So for our end-of-year teacher gifts we went to Seasons Olive Oil & Vinegar Taproom in North Bethesda, MD.

Seasons Taproom is a small, family owned business located in the Pike & Rose neighborhood in Bethesda. If you haven’t been yet, I highly recommend a visit soon! They also have locations in Annapolis, Bethlehem, PA, Lancaster, PA, and Morristown, NJ. If you love cooking, then you will be in heaven at this store and if cooking isn’t your thing, you will still be able to pick out the perfect gifts for your kids teachers!

The store is beautiful – sparkling clean and well organized. You are encouraged to sample all the many flavors of olive oils and vinegars. Some of the different flavors of olive oils are Blood Orange Fused, Cayenne Chili Fused, Lemon Fused, Rosemary Fused, and Garlic Infused. These are just a few – there are many, many more unique flavors. Seasons also carries whole fruit balsamic vinegars, dark balsamic vinegars, white balsamic vinegars, and wine vinegars.

Seasons carefully selects the olive growers that they work with to ensure they are only selling a fresh, quality product. They also directly import their products to deliver a high quality product at a low price. I will never again buy my olive oil from the grocery store after tasting Seasons oils! There is such a huge difference in the taste and quality and the price is comparable to the local grocery store.

The manager at the Bethesda store is Lamia and she is so incredibly knowledgeable about all the products they sell. If you have any questions at all, she will be able to answer them! When my girls and I visited the store to pick out their teacher gifts, Lamia first had us tell her about each of the teachers. Then she helped us select an appropriate gift for each of them. For the teachers who enjoy cooking, we selected a bottle of olive oil and a bottle of balsamic vinegar. For another teacher who doesn’t particularly like cooking but has kids to feed, we selected a gourmet pasta and a sauce to go along with it for a quick and easy meal. And for one of my daughters preschool teachers we chose an olive oil lotion and soap. We had 5 teachers to buy for this year and we were able to get each of them a nice gift without breaking the bank. My girls are so excited to give them to their teachers and I think they will love what we picked out!

Date Night at Summer House – Pike & Rose

Summer House
11825 Grand Park Avenue
North Bethesda, MD 20852

Date nights don’t happen often enough, so when my husband and I manage to free up time in our hectic schedules and line up the babysitter – we want to make it worth it! One of our favorite places to go is Summer House at Pike & Rose. When I’m not with my kids, I want to feel relaxed and Summer House has just that effect. The restaurant is designed with a laid back West Coast beach house feel – think hanging plants, white color scheme, and neutral colored furniture. There’s also a fabulous outdoor patio area that is perfect during the warmer months. It’s just the place I can sit back and enjoy a glass of wine (or two) and some great food!

The restaurant features a California-influenced American menu that emphasizes seasonal ingredients. There is something here for everyone – tacos, hamburgers, sushi, pasta, sandwiches, and salads. The wine list is great too!

Everything my husband and I have tried, we have loved! When we dined at Summer House last weekend we ordered the chips and guacamole as an appetizer and the prime rib french dip and the spice rubbed bigeye tuna. So, so good!

And the best part of all might just be the cookie counter at the front of the restaurant! Our favorite is the chocolate chip cookie with chunks of marshmallow bar on top. We normally grab a couple to take home to our girls and then they don’t really mind that we left them with a babysitter!

If for some reason your babysitter cancels at the last minute, go ahead and take the kids with you. They have a kids menu that is sure to please even the pickiest of eaters – spaghetti & meatballs, chicken fingers, grilled cheese, salmon fingers, and even breakfast for dinner.

Summer House also offers a weekend brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 8am to 3pm (including a kids brunch menu). I haven’t tried it yet but I’ve heard great things, so that is next on my list! The menu features benedicts, pancakes, waffles, french toast, eggs and omelets. Plus the sunrise punch and passion fruit margarita sound pretty amazing!

So make sure to schedule the babysitter and enjoy an evening at Summer House, you won’t be disappointed! And if you have enough time, head over to iPic across the street for a movie after dinner!

The Pike & Rose Experience

North Bethesda, MD 20852

The new Pike & Rose neighborhood in North Bethesda has become a go-to spot for shopping, dining and entertainment for my family. It is such a bright and happy area along  Rockville Pike and as a bonus for us, it’s only a few miles from our house. I absolutely dread going to the Mall. It takes forever to find a parking spot and then you have to waste more time getting to where you need to go inside the Mall and fighting crowds on top of that….no thank you! I find Pike & Rose to be stress-free starting with the garage parking – it’s convenient and the first two hours are free.

I first discovered Pike & Rose when my husband and I were looking for new restaurants for date night. It’s always fun and interesting to try new places. First we had a great meal at Summer House – it’s a must! I love the vibe and the food is fantastic. We have also gone back for other dates at City Perch and Del Frisco’s Grille. When our girls are dining with us we like to eat at either &pizza, Chipotle, or Roti. And for a sweet treat – froyo at Tutti Fruitti is always a good choice!

Not only do I love the dining options but the shopping is top notch too! I was so happy once I found out there was a Gap at Pike & Rose. This means no more dreaded trips to the mall for my family’s wardrobe essentials. I purchased a lot of back-to-school clothes for my girls at the Gap Kids because they are priced well, cute, trendy, and durable. I also get a lot of the classics like denim, khakis, and t-shirts for my husband and I at the Gap. And their workout clothes are great too!

Yogaso is my go-to store for the truly unique and special clothes for my girls. They sell clothing and toys from around the world. You can get things here that you can’t find anywhere else. It’s a great place to purchase outfits for those special occasions like the first day of school, birthdays, family photos, or holidays. I picked out an adorable Petite Lucette top and skirt for Mae’s first day of pre-school. She loved it and begged to wear it again on the second day of school!

In addition to the Gap and Yogaso, there is also a brand new Nike Factory store, Francesca’s, and Lucky Brand store. There is also a Season’s Olive Oil and Vinegar Taproom that is perfect for anyone who loves to cook. And also a great place to purchase gifts.

Entertainment & Events

The iPic theater at Pike & Rose is definitely the coolest theater in our area! My girls thought it was so special to have a reclining seat with a pillow and blanket. And the free popcorn delivered right to their seats was an added bonus!

Pike & Rose also holds special events throughout the year and we are big fans of their PIKEkids series. The kids events are held on the last Saturday of each month for ages 12 and under. They are usually free but require an RSVP to reserve a spot. Stay up-to-date on all the events here.

At one PIKEkids event this summer my girls had fun creating edible art at Seasons Taproom. The kids used fresh berries, edible flowers, freeze dried fruit and Seasons Balsamic Vinegars to make their own edible creations!

At another fun PIKEkids event this summer, we enjoyed an Instrument Petting Zoo and a performance by the band, Here Comes Trouble at AMP powered by Strathmore.

Pike & Rose’s third annual Piketoberfest is coming up on October 8th from 1-4pm. It is free to attend. There will be a craft beer tent, lawn games, and lots of kids activities. Plus live music sponsored by AMP by Strathmore. There will be food for sale and sampling by Carluccio’s, City Perch, Del Frisco’s Grille, Summer House, Stella Barra, and Roti. Sidewalk sales and special offers from Gap and Gap Kids, Francesca’s, Lucky Brand, Nike, Season’s Taproom and Yogaso Boutique.

You definitely need to go check out Pike & Rose if you haven’t been yet. It’s an all around beautiful and comfortable place for dining, shopping, and family entertainment!
