Weekend Fun: Events & Activities for February 21-22

Here are a few ideas to keep the kids entertained and the parents sane during the frigid cold weekend!

Saturday

The Avalon Theatre presents The RTTs

10:00am

The RTTs (also known as the Rhodes Tavern Troubadours) bring their toe-tapping, award-winning, original roots rock back to the Avalon! The whole family will want to dance along as they play hits like “Snack Time” and “Turn it Up, Mommy.”

Tickets: $9.00 / $7.00 for Avalon members (Children under 2 are free)

Vulture Enrichment – Meadowside Nature Center

11:00am

Vultures are smart! Come see Meadowside’s resident vulture play with her food at our weekly vulture enrichment session. This activity meets at the Raptor Walkway behind the nature. No registration required and programs are FREE! Groups please call in advance. Programs are held rain or shine! Please note: Though we try to keep our schedule, programs may be delayed or canceled depending on the health of the live animals.

Raptor Lunchtime and Talk – Meadowside Nature Center

12:00pm

Observe Meadowside’s resident raptors during their feeding time and learn some of the stories about the raptors on exhibit. These talks meet at the Raptor Walkway behind the nature center. No registration required and programs are FREE! Groups please call in advance. Programs are held rain or shine! Please note: Though we try to keep our schedule, programs may be delayed or canceled depending on the health of the live animals.

Saturday Story & Craft – Croydon Creek Nature Center

10:00am

Stop by the Nature Center for story time and a craft.Our Naturalist will read a story and lead a craft activity based on the story. Dress for the weather. Adult participation is required.

$4 resident/$6 non-resident

Sunday

Bookworms – Croydon Creek Nature Center

3:30pm

Curl up with a good book at the Nature Center. At each Bookworm program, we’ll read a new story and you’ll get a copy of the book to take home. Each program may include a craft or hike. Adult participation required. Spaces are limited.Ages 2-5 yrs.

$10 resident/$12 non-resident

Sleeping Beauty Ballet & Tea Party – Metropolitan Ballet

Sittings at 10am, 12pm, 5pm & 6:30pm

Metropolitan Ballet Theatre Studios
220 Perry Parkway, Gaithersburg

*Meet Aurora, the Lilac Fairy & More
*Enjoy a ballet class and a craft
*Enjoy ‘tea’ and a sweet treat
*Appropriate for ages 3-7

Reservations required
$18 per child
Adult must stay, no charge for adults.
Each sitting will last 60-75 minutes.

Fly Guy & Other Stories – The Alden, McLean Community Center

2:00pm

A Theatreworks USA production

$15/$10 MCC district residents

For ages 5+. Fly Guy has met his match, and her name is Fly Girl. Fly Guy is totally impressed and totally smitten. Will Fly Guy and Fly Girl get married and leave Buzz without his dear pet? Other stories by authors such as McMullan, Howe, Henkes and Munsch will be featured.
